Internal The Chronicle of Higher Education washburn technical schoolLeadership and Management: Provide direction in themanagement and operation of Washburn Tech. Direct a $7.5 millionannual budget in order to accomplish strategic goals. Coordinatethe efforts to redefine and develop assessment processes toevaluate strategic initiatives. Build and sustain technicalprograms that deliver quality graduates. Serve as a steward ofcurrent cilities while exploring areas for expansion andimprovement. Sustain a creative and productive working environmentfor culty, staff, students and community constituencies. Workwith the Washburn University Foundation to determine fundraisinggoals and strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS
External Leadership: Lead the development of partnerships betweenWashburn Tech and the Topeka, Shawnee County and Northeast Kansascommunities with a special emphasis on connections with businessand industry as well as the surrounding school districts. Respondto industry needs now and in the future with input from businesses,educational institutions and local civic organizations. Work withcommunity advisory boards to maintain and improve programs withmultiple entry and exit points. Work to have a transparent avenueof communication with various constituencies. Coordinate curricularand program initiatives under the auspices of Technical EducationAuthority/Kansas Board of Regents. Serve as an educational leaderand catalyst for industry growth in Northeast Kansas.
REQUIRED: Masters degree with emphasis in technical education,educational administration or in a field of study related to one ormore of the instructional programs offered at Washburn Tech.Increasing responsibilities in managerial and leadership roles inhigher education institutions. Proven communication skills andability to work effectively with communities both internal andexternal to Washburn Tech including business, industry, and thelocal high schools. Experience in grant development and budgetmanagement. Understanding of state and federal regulations relatedto technical education as well as higher education. PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate with emphasis in technical education,educational administration or a field of study related to one ormore of the instructional programs offered. Experience as a cultymember in adult or higher education. Experience with cilitiesdevelopment and expansion, with secondary public/privatepartnerships, and in fund-raising.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Chronicle of Higher Education washburn technical school,THE INSTITUTION: Washburn Tech was officially established in 1964.The school has completed major rebuilding projects, having grownfrom one building in 1966 to a 43-acre, multi-building campusproviding todays valued technical training. Washburn Tech has 66full-time staff including 37 culty members offering 24certificate programs to approximately 860 students, more than 72%of whom are postsecondary. The school also has a Center forCommunity Outreach and Business and Industry Services with 35part-time culty offering continuing education courses andcustomized training to area businesses. Washburn Tech is accreditedby the Higher Learning Commission: A Division of the North CentralAssociation of Colleges and School. Other certifications andaccreditations include NATEF, National Automobile TechnicalEducation Foundation; ATEF, Accredited Training and EducationFacility by NCCER, National Center for Construction Education andResearch; I-CAR, Inter-Industry Conference on Auto CollisionRepair; NLNAC, National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission;KSBN, Kansas Board of Nursing; CAAHEP, Commission on Accreditationof Allied Health Education Programs, and AWS, America WeldingSociety. Washburn Tech and six higher education partners in Kansasrecently received a $20 million Trade Adjustment AssistanceCommunity College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant from theDepartment of Labor to improve and expand technical education inseven signature workforce training programs. This collaborativeproject represents significant leadership opportunities andpotential for workforce development in the area and across thestate. Washburn University and Washburn Tech are governed by anindependent, 9-member Board of Regents. Technical education inKansas is overseen by the Technical Education Authority, a divisionof the Kansas Board of Regents through which Washburn Tech receivessupplemental funding.
